Trains (and Tube, Metro and Subway)

I love travelling by train, while it can be expensive compared to flying (yes sometimes flying can be cheaper over longer distances!), you get to see so much, especially if you've secured a decent window seat!  Obviously it can take longer to get where you are going, but on many of the train services over longer distances, you have all the 'services' you would find on a plane, including food and beverage offerings.

On my travels, I have used trains as a means to getting to my next destination, but have also made use of them to 'commute' to and from work, to go shopping, or to explore the part of the world I am in.

A lot of train travel, can be booked on the day, even just rocking up to the train station, and organsing a ticket, and jumping on board!  This will of course depend on where you are going, the time of year, the day, and the time of day.

On some train services you can get 'passes', that give you discounted

train travel, and sometimes it can include other forms of transport e.g.

ferries, trams, tube, metro, subway, and buses.  It is worth checking if

you are eligible, as it can save you a lot of money, especially if this will

be your main form of transport while visiting a country/destination.

How do I find out about rail travel?  I google, make use of websites,

and apps, and I also ask locals or tourist information centres.  As with

any form of travel you are organising, it pays to shop around to find

the 'deals', and of course the tickets, that are going to suit you and your timetable.

I will be bringing your more content about travelling by rail, that will be related to a specific country, city, town or regional destinations, as I have experienced it.  Topics will cover train, tube, metro, and subway, and will have information about tips and tricks, relevant websites, and apps, and any other content relating to these mode of transport!
