Freelance Digital Nomad
To me being a Freelance Digital Nomad (FDN) is a way of life, in relation to work
and living. It provides me the autonomy to choose where I work, how I work,
when I work, what work I do, and who I work with.
I have been pursuing this way of life for just over a year, initially while still having a
'full time permanent job' that I was doing from numerous locations in the UK,
and infrequently having to put in an appearance at the 'office'.
I have since moved to being a freelancer, where I gain work from various
means, and I am now working from locations in both the UK, Ireland, and Europe.
This way of life will not be for everyone, and when I was starting out I personally found it had many challenges. Some of the challenges for me were;
-
building a client base,
-
building a reputation,
-
earning enough money to live,
-
being resilient,
-
maintaining motivation, and
-
not being distracted by where I was living, and going out and experiencing all that the place had to offer!
So while there have been challenges, there have been a tonne of benefits! These have included;
-
freedom of where I have been working and living,
-
higher productivity,
-
doing work that adds value to me and my clients,
-
learning about myself and others,
-
being present in the work that I have been doing,
-
learning new skills,
-
flexibility in the hours and days I work, and
-
freedom!
Being a FDN can be achieved in multiple ways, both in relation to work and living. For myself I am doing full time house sitting around the UK, Ireland, and Europe, so this provides me with my accommodation, and I just have to have enough money to afford the travel to get to the destination of the house sit and to live.
In relation to work, I am earning money through freelance contracts, that I get from a variety of sources, and I am also seeking paid employment, that can be undertaken remotely from anywhere in the world. I want and need this paid employment, until such time as the money I am earning from my freelance contracts, earns me enough to keep me in the style I have become accustomed to! This website and its content is also another means I am hoping to earn some additional passive income through affiliate marketing, merchandise sales (watch this space), and turning my free house sitting into paid house sitting.
This is just the beginning of my journey as a FDN, how long will it last, is anyones guess. As long as I am earning enough to cover my travel, and living costs, and it makes me happy, then I can see myself doing it for years.
I'll be adding more content, information, tips and tricks, and details about my FDN journey through additional pages and blogs being added to the website.
If you have any questions or anything you want to share about your FDN journey drop me line, I'd love to hear from you.
