I Spent the Day with Dead People

Finally, made my way to Glasgow! Worked out how to use the Scots Rail App, which was fine on the way to Glasgow, not so useful on my way back when my phone was about to die, despite doing a cheeky part re-charge at the Apple Store! However made it there and back.

I got to Glasgow with no idea where I was going or what I was doing, meandered around aimlessly, just soaking up the sights and sounds. Found a book store and bought a good old fashioned Lonely Planet Guide for Scotland, YES, YES, I know what about the internet - see my comment above about my phone about to die! Also there is something about thumbing through the pages of a book, while I regrouped my thoughts over a beer and good ol' fashioned bangers and mash at ole Scottish Pub!

So I wondered through the City Streets towards Glasgow Cathedral, and Glasgow Necropolis - hence me spending the day with the dead! A really rich heritage of 'life' - reading the gravestones and seeing the stories behind individuals and their families. In today's world, many died so young, but that was just the way it was. Interesting that the Cathedral and the Graveyard (Necropolis), were right beside the Glasgow Royal Infirmary - 'something ironic' in that!

Part of the Infirmaries history there was the St Mungo's College Medical School. Interesting that the name Mungo is the Patron Saint of Glasgow and its Scottish origin means "my pet" and more often than not given to boys. Somewhere along my paternal heritage, the name Mungo was a given middle name!

All in all a fab start to getting to 'know' Glasgow - even with slightly morbid undertones, however how better to start learning about a City, than through the gravestones of some of the people and their families who were part of building this City.

Here are just a few of the snaps I took ....

Cheers
